The OP has already pointed out that, as his name is Russian, he's not likely to bother to try to pass himself off as a native English speaker. |

Misrepresenting oneself is fraud, pure and simple. That is especially so when people's hard earned money is involved. |
And I will put another case to you. One of the missionaries' children was a native born english speaker, but spoke colloquial Russian fluently according to the head of a university English department. So was he a "native born" Russian speaker?
Do you think Joseph Conrad had as good a command of English as somebody who had not been born in Poland? It would be highly un-Russian (or at least un-Siberian) to stick at such a minor detail as where the speaker was actually born.
Also to the OP. So you have a Russian name. Your parents could easily have been some of the white Russians who came out of Russia in the 20's but didn't anglicize their name. Look at Helen Mirren or Natalie Wood for example. |

It amazes me that people would condone such fraud and misrepresentation. No wonder EFL teachers are considered the lowest form of life on the educational ladder. Such ethics speak poorly about anyone. |

Dear GF and others
I wrote in the beginning of this thread and then left off when it became a bit of an argument. So often (almost always) these conversations end up discussing things not even related to the original topic.
I think we can easily see that the OP is much nearer to a native speaker than any teacher in Russia ever will be. It is up to him to make the choice between the two options he has. The "heinous deception" (I liked that post, mdk! ) or the "truth". Because BOTH have a bit of "lying" in them!
And both options are fine. The world is not black and white, my friend. Anyone in Russia who hasn't learnt that in the first week after landing is blind AND deaf.
As for disc77, good luck to you, mate. May you make your choice and feel good about it either way.
