Do you think that an M Ed (TESOL) would be better regarded than an MA in Applied Linguistics simply because of its title? This is a broad question, I know, but I'm after your personal opinions.
The reason? I was having a discussion with a friend who said that the
M Ed (TESOL) sounds better because of the word 'education'. We were looking at a couple of programmes and they were essentially the same thing, just a different title.
What do you think?[/i] |

Look better to whom? What sort of jobs were you thinking of applying to, and in what country(ies)? |

A MA in Linguistics seems to be more theoricial based compared to an MA in TEFL. Now I haven't done a MA in Linguistics but some of my friends have and they have said that. I am currently doing my MA in TEFL and the questions that you do can determine the style that you want to follow. Hope that helps.

When you're just doing an on-line Masters degree, does it really matter? |

The question was about Applied Linguistics, though, not Linguistics. My MA is in TESOL, but I get the impression that they're pretty much the same thing (although Linguistics, like you said, is more theoretical). A lot of jobs that ask for MAs will ask for TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or some other equivalent.
