For people who have lived in both places, which one is better? Since this is the Taiwan board, please make an effort to place emphasis on your experiences in Taiwan. We can read about Korean experiences on the Korea board; just use Korea as a basis for comparison only. |

You guys might find it interesting that in the Korea forum, 71% of the people chose Korea, so far.
People will distort the objective truth just so it doesnt look like they made bad choices.
Well, at least the expats in Korea do that |

Why let experience and objectivity get in the way of a good opinion |

I worked for six years total in Korea and two in Taiwan.
I certainly prefer life and living in Taiwan, but if I am trying to sock away money and don't want to work quite as hard - then Korea is the place.
It is quite possible to be comfortable and live well in both places, but I do find the culture of Taiwan much more interesting and people more friendly. |

TK,
Interesting comments as this has been repeated over and over again by several people on both the polls here and on the Korean forum.
So, it would appear, then that most of the people who have worked in both places tend to perceive the Taiwanese as being friendlier than the Koreans.
I also hear people saying that they can earn slightly more in Korea.
Finally, people who have lived in both Korea and Taiwan argue that they don't seem to have to work as hard to earn their salaries.
Not to mention the argument for free housing and paid airfare.
Korea, however, does seem like a harsher experience for TEFL'ers, based on my own personal experience and talking with others about their experiences. |

Earning is hard to say - as the housing and airfare thing throws the mix out of balance.
I would say that I saved about 50% more per month in Korea than I did in Taiwan - still not an insignificant amount of money . . .
If the difference was close - I'd probably would have gone back to Taiwan a second time rather than my second "tour" of Korea, but it wasn't (at least not for me). |

that is my new motto.
I would rather live very well and save X per month than live an "okay" or "decent" lifestyle and save 1.5X per month.
Taiwan rocks over Tae-Han-Hang-Kuk any day...
...but then again : I am a self-indulgent SOB. |
