Luckily I have no desire to go to Florida

I left Texas since it's illegal for a man to wear a dress between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM

"Law and Order Miami - Special Shower Investigations Unit" - coming to your knock-off DVD shop this autumn!

Question: If you're wearing a shower cap, do you still count as naked?

A good one I came across recently, in the U.S. again ( I forget which state)
It is illegal for a woman to drive a car unless a man is walking in front carrying (waving?) a flag.
Can anyone spot the big flaw in that one?

Actually, on many strets I know, especially in beijing, it is impossible to wait for the green light to cross the street, and still cross before the light turns red.

Chinese friend told me this Chinese joke

Chinese boy and Chinese girlfriend about to cross the street. Light is red. Boy waits. looks next to him, girlfriend has already crossed. Boy get to the other side. Girl says.."I'm breaking up with you. You'll never be anything if you aren't willing to break a small law"

Boy gets a laowai girlfriend. Same traffic light. It's red. This time the boy crosses. Looks, girlfriend waiting for the green light. Laowai girlfriend finally crosses. Says. "I'm breaking up with you. You'll never be anything if you can't respect society enough to obey laws. You're to self centered.

Forgive my translation

Everyone seems to assume that the western view and use of law is the only proper use and view of law. Is our lw system so perfect?

Confucious said family came over law. I think the example he used was the father who stole a pig and his son's leader comes and asks about it.

Which is right? What is the purpose of law? Who is it for?

laws against theft, murder, assault, ect are, to me, laws that exist because it is morally wrong behavior (do unto others as you would have them do unto you).

laws about moving about freely, owning certain items, ect are illegal because someone in power said no.

you always have a choice to follow or break laws you have to decide wich you think are worth following. If you follow the rules because you agree with them or belive breaking them is not worth the risk, you are acting like a rational person. If you blindly follow all laws because they are laws you are what the ccp would likely call a good person.

Ultimately, realistically, nothing is illegal unless you get caught

Similar to "if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound" ...

However the latter has an actual answer

fact is i broke the law on a daily basis in Canada for the last 7 years or so smoking herb but now that im in China i avoid it like hell. I guess if the crime is worth the punishment go for it. not that it ever was but hey $100 fine isnt so bad. I am however breaking Canadian laws here on a daily basis that would put me in the drunk tank for the night. If i know i am goin to feel guilty about it i dont do it, anything else is fair game, just know that it wont stand up in court.

arioch36 - Maybe the joke is about how impossible it is to keep a girl happy rather than jaywalking laws.
