I saw a few posts about jobs in Siberia and Language Link questions and Interns. Well, I went through the LL intern program a year ago and I'm a teacher at Language Link in Krasnoyarsk (which apparently has a lot less problems then Ufa - thankfully!!!) and I love it! - even more than Moscow.

Just thought I'd put it out there if any one has questions or interest let me know. I have might have some answers and/or connections for job searchers.

Hi - do you anything about work in Irkutsk? (I'm thinking about it from September 2008).

I'd be interested in the basics:

Living standards (compared to Moscow and rest of Russia)
Students/schools
Monthly pay

All that stuff! Smile

Same, i'm keen on knowing how life is there and what LL is like. What are the hours like? Is it block or split shift? Can you get a job at LL Krasnoyarsk without a certificate and just with some teaching experience?

Might be a side issue, but do you know if there is a music/guitar shop in Krasnoyarsk? Smile Where keen on starting asap there. Is there anyone we should contact?

I've never been east of Tomsk, but I can tell you how it was there a couple of years ago.

Moscow is a large urban metropolis and isn't that much different from any large city - Philly perhaps - except that most people speak Russian.

You will find a lot fewer ex-pats around in Siberia. All the large Siberian cities I have ever been in had all of the modern amenities. It was a lot harder to find books in English and Siberians tend to be a different breed of cat than Muskovites. In a similar fashion you would find people in Wyoming rather different than those in Brooklyn.

My mother was afraid that Tomsk was a crossroads with two huts with polar bears patrolling the streets. Will you find a guitar/music store ? No all they have in Siberia are accordions and balalaikas (Haw! Haw! Haw!)

I remember that in Tomsk I went to a concert from a laureate violinist playing a Brahms piece at the concert hall. For $20 I got a ticket maybe 20 meters from the stage. That ain't happening in Moscow, bunkie.
