Hello everyone!

So, I went to the Nova preliminary interview and got the job pending the results of a background check. I haven't commited any felony's that I'm aware of so as far as that's concerned I'm in, no? Nervous excitement and anticipation abound! Then I find out about all this recent Nova nonsense and am suddenly filled with dread. Is this a sign I shouldn't go? Do I need to start the interview process over? Etc etc...
Could really use some insight/advice/encouragment/a high paying job right about now. I have no experience and am fairly flexible, but don't have the cash on hand to fly all over creation for interviews. Should I think China or Thailand right about now?

This is a tough one. I'd say go for it anyway. My logic (and this is informed by the fact that it doesn't affect me if I'm wrong) is that if they're still willing to hire you, then they still need staff. If they need staff, it means they still have customers, thus money, thus you'll get paid.

NO! Until recently I would have said risk it if you had a plan B just in case, but Nova is finished now. Come over with a different company if at all.

Dont quit until you get your work visa and get to Japan...because once you are here the jobs are endless. So I would wait to see how bad it really is..if you want to come to Japan then come and see what happens, you can always find a new job.

Up till about 10 days ago I also would have said come over with Nova originally and then look for a new job, but with what has developed in the last week I would definitely agree with Temujin. You are unlikely to ever see any pay from them, they are in absolute financial chaos and the chances of them pulling out of this are about zero.

They are still recruiting overseas bcause the overseas offices have little idea what is going on in Japan, or are choosing to ignore the obvious.

You could come over and interview here, although bear in mind that you would be competing with a lot of ex-Nova teachers who have already quit (hundreds in the last month or so) and those who will be out of work after the very likely scenario of the company collapsing completely in the near future.

China or Thailand, or Taiwan for example could be better options at the moment.

Don't even think about it . Nova can't be replied upon to even complete the Visa application process at the moment..anything could happen in that 'waiting period'.

Talk to ECC,GEOS, Shane, etc. They are all better, relatively.

Sorry. You would be much better off interviewing with AEON or ECC or some other school that recruits from abroad. Placing all your eggs in the NOVA basket would be very foolish at this point in time. Japan's not going anywhere. So if you wanna come over here, then be sure to do it the right way.

I'm in agreement with the majority. To come to a completely different country where you'll need things like housing, possible a bit of money to get you started in case you have difficulty making a bank transfer or something (it DOES happen), etc., and then to work for a company that might not even be able to provide things things would be STUPID.

If you must come to Japan, come though a different company where you can at least have your housing and paycheck guaranteed.

Have you considered Korea? The pay is actually better than in Japan now.

Thank you all for your varied advice. I wasn't planning on making the trip till January so I think things will be sorted out one way or the other by then. Time for plan B!
