|

Is that still on? I know the regulations on converting L visas to Z visas had changed some time back. However, I have been asked by a university in Chengdu and now by one in Jiangsu (both state-owned) to come on an L visa. They assure me they will convert my tourist visa to a work visa.
Can anyone tell me if that is still possible? Or, will that entail travel to HK?
Thanks in advance for any info! |

Officially you are suppose to come on a Z visa. Converting an L visa to Z visa is strictly prohibited. However as in China different provinces interpret the rules differently. So depending on the province it is possible. If the school says they can then give them the benefit, especially if they are a state run school. However when you arrive do not accept them delaying changing the visa. |

My bet is that once the OP arrives and starts the motions for paperwork, he'll be issued an F visa.
Results may vary. Void where prohibited. |

My latest 'L' was changed to a 'Z' here in Guangdong in mid August. My February 'L' visa was changed to a "Z" in Wuxi, Jiangsu in February 2007. In February 2003, my first 'L' visa was changed to a 'Z' in Chongqing. |

Got my L-Z conversion back with my passport today, complete with little red books and everything. Depends on how much guangxi your employer has with the local bureacrats. Nothing much else matters.
I was a bit concerned about doing things this way initially but I spoke to other teachers who had worked at the same school for years and they assured me it simply wasn't a problem. |

Thank you all who have responded to my query. I can now travel to China in a more relaxed state of mind. |
