I am interested in finding out more about the state of public schooling in peru. Anyone ventured inside one or have any experiences to share of public schooling here in Peru?

I don't think they're all that good. 40 kids crammed into a class that doesn't have basic supplies and has teachers who didn't pass the basic exam they gave this summer.

Are you interested in teaching in one next year?

God No! But I am interested in finding out more about how we could help them to improve the level of education they provide. Fleming has just done some seminars for state school teachers called "Teachers Teaching Teachers in Trujillo". It was great and I think the teachers who attended go a lot out of it, but I was amazed at the basic teaching ideas that they were not familiar with.

It would be great if more sessions like that could be organised, or other educational reform put in place or resources made available somehow to these schools.
