Hi, You just need to turn up (looking professional) at any time of the year. Work is readily available if you are prepared to start with a couple of hours each day. When you've proved yourself the hours will increase - this usually takes about a week!! You'll need to have enough to live on for a least two months, so about $2000. You won't live like a king on it, more like a duke.
Try to resist the locally run schools until you know what you're doing and which are the good schools. Many have no idea about English teaching and will drop you in a multi-level class (complete beginners mixed with advanced) with completely inappropriate material. As long as they can say the students have a native speaking teacher thats all they care about, as it brings in the bucks.
mail your cv out, or drop it off to the schools, the majority of which are in Phnom Penh.
If you wanna email me on [email protected] I'll answer any questions. I've been in PP six months now and have had no trouble getting work.
