Not sure if this has been posted or not, but I thought I would make it easy to find. I heard from a BT today that a note was circulated to all branches that stated that teacher payday for this month was going to be postponed until the 19th.

There is a copy on Let's Japan. It's actually a fax, in English, signed by Saruhashi. It arrived at the branches at about 9.30 last night and does say that pay will be delayed until next Friday.

actually the fax doesn't say that instructors will be paid on the 19th, it says pay is "scheduled" for the 19th, which is even less promising.

I called in sick today. After hearing about a few friends getting eviction notices combined with the late pay, I'm going to be calling in sick until I see my FIRST pay check from Nova. I've had a great time in Japan so far (about 2 1/2 weeks) but I refuse to work for no pay. I knew of Nova's condition before I came to Japan, but I went anyways, so I know that I have myself to blame. But, I had to take the chance. Time to find a new job!

You and lots of other people, I bet Smile A bummer of a way to start off in Japan, but you are doing the right thing by getting out of there as soon as possible. Good luck with that job search.

I've been "sick" on and off now for the past few weeks, mostly so I could go take interviews. The market definately looks flooded though. At one interview, while I was in the waiting area, I began talking to the 3 other guys ahead of me. No surprise, they were all ex-Novas, of varying degrees. One guy had about 5 years under his belt, and we all lamented our current situation, but also had a good laugh. It may very well be time to pack it in and either go home or go somewhere else in Asia. I still got about a month before funds become critical, after that South Korea sounds nice.

On a brighter note, I've seen a lot of Tokyo having to go to so many interviews Smile

Really, I'm surprised that some people would still be going to work. Not knowing if or when I was going to be paid.

Time to cut out and find something else, move on over to South Korea or head home.

There could end up being a huge dump of NOVA teachers into the market, especially in Tokyo and Osaka where most of the schools are located. The competition for jobs would onl then become fierce with the glut of ex NOVA TEFL'ers in the market.

That's already happened, Miyazaki, by the looks of it. Drifter's experience suggests that the huge dump of teachers onto the market is already there.

Yep, it's been going down for a while now from the looks of things. I was late to the game before I even landed, but if your lookin for work now you'd better have a magic trick up your sleave or have really good Japanese, cause it's a free for all right now.

Things might shake out in a few months after the dust cloud from Nova's collapse settles and people get a better picture whats what, but I don't know if to many people are willing or can even hold out that long. The few hold outs I know are pretty much done with the Oct 19 pay move, and most of em are going home. It's sad a sad situation, but I feel even worse for those who have families here and have to find a new way to support them.

I bought a doll of the NOVA Usagi today as a collectors item in case of the complete collapse and disappearance of the company.

That's pretty much the the vibe. I don't feel so bad, cause I barely worked for the company, and I've been using thier housing for almost a month, so we're even as far as i'm concerned. I'm gonna move out before friday though, cause those eviction notices are gonna come fast and furious soon after.

Yeah, but I heard that NOVA have traditionally paid at midnight. Seems like it would be worth checking out at the ATM whenever you can. Good luck to you. I hope things work out alright.
