Hi, I don't have this "teacher registration certificate" right now and don't know if I am able to get it. I read through the NET application form. It asks to attach this certificate with the application form. I was wondering if it is a mandatory requirment for NET applicants???

Are there any NET teacher who were hired without "teacher registration certificate"??

Thanks

According to the EDB, teacher registration is mandatory - http://www.edb.gov.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=268&langno=1

There are two types of teachers: Permitted (tied to one school and have to re-apply if you change schools) and Registered (accepted at any school in HK).

Unfortunately, if you have 'non-local qualifications', you might have to deal with the HK Council for Academic and Vocational Accreditation www.hkcaa.edu.hk which requires you to pay $2160 (current fee listed on the website)and you must submit your secondary school transcripts/certificate.

This topic has been discussed here and on other HK teachers forums. It seems that some people were able avoid the HKCAVA (thus avoided paying $2160) by going directly to the EDB Teacher Registration Team, but that was a few years ago.

Several years ago at a meeting with international school principals and supervisors, Education and Manpower Perm Secretary Fanny Lau was surprised that teachers with two/three/four degrees and thirty years of teaching experience were required to submit their secondary school transcripts. But, as usual, nothing has changed. The HKCAVA website still says "from senior secondary school onwards".
