I am just curious about current supply and demand. More qualified candidates/less vacancies or more vacancies/less qualified candidates???
Any comments will be appreciated. |

I get the feeling there's better qualified people this time round.
A couple of years ago when they expanded the PNET scheme, they resorted to taking pretty much anyone who had a TESOL certificate + degree (in anything, not teaching).
Then last year lots of NETs left (~40-50% iirc).
This year there doesn't appear to be the same level of desperation amongst schools to secure NETs. At any rate the papers aren't making any mention of it (like they did in years previous).
That said, I see Edstaff was still advertising for both SNETs and PNETs last month, starting either in January or August next year.
Of course, with the collapsing US$ (some are now predicting the Oz$ to reach parity!) and with the increasingly well-known pollution problems, HK is becoming less and less attractive as a teaching destination. Come next year, I wouldn't be surprised to find EDB having major problems filling spots again. |
