When Japanese go abroad...where do they most want to go?
Living in Korea, seems like most Koreans want to go to either Vancouver or Toronto.
How about in Japan? With it being very easy for them to get an American visa and so many Japanese already living in Hawaii. I'm wondering if Hawaii or maybe Los Angeles might be more popular?
How about Sydney or Australia? Are they equally popular?
What are other's ideas on where they most want to go and either study or visit for English purposes. |

Locally: Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, Hong Kong.
Further afield: France, USA (i.e., California or NY), Australia (i.e., Gold Coast, Sydney).
This is about 90% of where my students said they went. |

Agree with jademonkey.
South Korea seems to be popular too, especially for women. (shopping, "este", and Kankokudrama tours) |

Hawaii seems to be the most popular. I was surprised how many people said they had been to the middle east and north Africa on vacation. |

Hawaii
Canada
Italy
UK
Australia
Sometimes S.Korea, Thailand, China.
These have been the most popular places from the adults I know. Student school trips are totally different. |

Definately Australia, although that seems to be the somewhat older Japanese that want to holiday and or live in Australia. |

LOL!
I never understood that one. Japanese tend to add an extra vowel to almost anything English, yet I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard ToronTO pronounced correctly.
Anyway to answer the original question, many people I've met here tend to go to:
The Gold Coast/Sydney Australia
Guam/Saipan/Hawaii (they aren't all that different IMO)
Vancouver
Paris
Rome
Niagara Falls (mostly older people)
New Caledonia (for the very rich)
Basically lame, safe package tours.
Not everyone though...I have one student who's goal is to tour all the "stans"...he's already been to 4. |
