anyways, i thought it was pretty accurate. and a bit sad, to see how these large corporations took advantage of cheap labor, environment, etc..back in the 80's.

then again, it's almost been like this since the Age of Imperialism in Africa with the European countries destroying the land.

i guess you could say the world suffers from many social problems, etc nowadays...but, at least it seems we have improved 'corporate responsibility'. i even see these BP ads now, and how they are spending billions on the environment.

or is it just marketing??

Marketing mostly. In my previous life, I've done a fair bit of environmental work for oil companies and other chemical producers. BP and all the others are forced by environmental regulations (at least here in the US) to act responsibly and cleanup after themselves. The marketing guys use these efforts to make the companies look good. In reality, they wouldn't be "doing the right thing" if they have to.

that's kind of what i figured. but, im sure there are tons more regulations now regarding chemical waste, employee exposure, etc.

anyways, i think Panasonic and Digital both packed up and went East since the documentary.

you're in Morelia? my former group of ESL students up here were from Morelia, now they're in Savannah GA. must be nice Smile

No, I'm in Las Vegas, NV. I was in Morelia for 15 months, but I left in September. I haven't changed my profile yet because I'm still in the denial phase and can't bear to; it would be too final.

i felt the same way after 7 years abroad. was worse for me, because i never came home to visit the US. never left the borders of Ecuador.
i really felt like i was on Saturn, still does. there should be a recovery group of ex-L.America-TEFL'ers Smile
