A few months ago I read a great post about cover letters and CVs from someone who had to look at a great number of them. Now I cannot locate it. If you wrote it, know its title, or otherwise can give information, I would appreciate it greatly! |

Just remember that the most important thing is to edit your cover letter--it's not a forum post or an email to a friend, it's a business letter. In this electronic age you should write a cover letter specific cover letter for each job you apply for--in the old days of mail and typewritters it was fine to write a general cover letter, make 50 copies and send them out. Now that's just pure laziness. I recently recieved a very good cover letter that showed me the writer had taken a little time to learn something about our school (google it!). In the cover letter he used that knowledge to convience me he'd be a good member of our team--and it worked, he got the job.
On the other hand I recently got one that said, the teacher would be able to arrive in China mid-December. Umm that's nice, but our school is in Mexico.... I didn't even bother opening his resume. |

I deftly chucked it over my left shoulder, banked it off the wall and directly into the waste basket, no look, damn I'm good. Actually, I just clicked delete. The smoke from the Montecristo No. 2 left a thin, hazy fog in my bungalow and the ice began to melt in the glass of Havana Club (Note to self: have el muchacho pick up case of rum, I'm running low). Today, a day like any other, I take a long, deep breath filled with the sweet, rich smoke and wash it down with the diluted nectar. The left click is wearing thin, I check my inbox. Jesus Cristo, why must you forsake me? Is there not a single creature who knows the etiquette of Cover Letter writing? Delete, delete, delete! I refill my vasito and remember that I must pick up my dress from the cleaners for the Obra tonight. I will look smashing! |
