| Tabasco state is unfortunately underrepresented on this forum, but I think it appropriate to send out wishes of safety to those of us there working and teaching. The state is mostly under water right now and in need of help. Kelly and Paul...stay safe and stay dry. |

Actually my girlfriend's dad works for the Disaster Relief ... or Emergency Organization in Tabasco, Villahermosa. He's currently stuck in the office headquarters and they are pumping water out of the base floor...fortunately it has 3 pisos or something. Lots are comparing it to the flood in New Orleans, having to do with two major rivers (Grijalva) and another I cannot remember....it is going to be devastating once it clears.
From what I understand Tabasco is lower than Chiapas...and it rained hard in Chiapas AND Tabasco; so the water drains down into Tabasco through two major rivers.

Thanks Guy. We are all right where we live but most of the downtown area is under water. There are about 7 shelters in my neighbourhood, and Paul and I have been helping out a bit... The Army and Navy seem to really have things under control. Let's just hope that the cold front that is expected tomorrow doesn't bring more rain.  |

There are a couple of other posters who used to post that lived there. One had been in Chiapas, and the other had a son who's grandparents lived there.
My brother-in-law and his family arrived here this weekend. He's going back on Wednesday, but his wife and children will stay here until the water's gone down and their house has been cleaned up. When they left on Friday there was 50 cm of water in their onestory house. The expect that everything that didn't fit in the car has been lost.  |

The other school may start up again this Saturday, but initial indications are that it may be January before they resume a full schedule. My intention is to try to stick it out here, although in the long term there are other parts of the country and world where I would like to teach.
Everybody here is grateful for the help they have received from throughout the country, and although things are far from the way they were pre-flood, there is a sense that the city and state will fully recover.
