Got a Question. I came here a year ago and got a lot of good advice on this site. I flew in, got a job, made some good money and now I want to leave, I think. My employer has offered me a new contract but I don't trust him and I want some advice. My ARC and visa expire 30 November. I can sign the new contract and get some breathing room but I want to know what the rules are for leaving. I have to work through 30 November to get paid for the whole month. I don't get paid until December 5. Do I have to leave the country on 30 November? I called the Labor Department and was told I could apply for an extension of 14 days to put my affairs in order. I have already put an ad on tealit for my apartment and got several replies so no problem there. But I want to stay a few days, pack my stuff, GET MY MONEY IN HAND, and then leave.

Can I get an extension? I live in Banqioa. Do I go to the office that issued my ARC? I remember going to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in town. Help.

Without taking the police offer of an extension, there are not many options unless you fly out of the country to get one, but that seems a waste of money.

A new contract will be for a year, and breaking it you may have problems with wages unless timed very very well. Also breaking a contract makes it harder on the next teacher, the children, not to mention the employer.
