Got a Question. I came here a year ago and got a lot of good advice on this site. I flew in, got a job, made some good money and now I want to leave, I think. My employer has offered me a new contract but I don't trust him and I want some advice. My ARC and visa expire 30 November. I can sign the new contract and get some breathing room but I want to know what the rules are for leaving. I have to work through 30 November to get paid for the whole month. I don't get paid until December 5. Do I have to leave the country on 30 November? I called the Labor Department and was told I could apply for an extension of 14 days to put my affairs in order. I have already put an ad on tealit for my apartment and got several replies so no problem there. But I want to stay a few days, pack my stuff, GET MY MONEY IN HAND, and then leave.
Can I get an extension? I live in Banqioa. Do I go to the office that issued my ARC? I remember going to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in town. Help. |

Without taking the police offer of an extension, there are not many options unless you fly out of the country to get one, but that seems a waste of money.
A new contract will be for a year, and breaking it you may have problems with wages unless timed very very well. Also breaking a contract makes it harder on the next teacher, the children, not to mention the employer. |
