I love the nicknames people come up with in Mexico - in Spanish of course.

Elmero Machin is one for a friend who is a little dopey but still always on the prowl.

El/la guero/a seems common for any light-skinned person

Tontin for anyone a little, um, slow.

El huevo for one guy running our lancha at Xochimilco. I got the impression he was a bit lazy.

El maplesito is the one given to me by my in-laws, for simply being Canadian.

Chocoquin is one I've given to someone recently, for being both short and a chocoholic.

Here are some I hear in my Mexican family...
I am "Guereja"

One nephew was given a name for resembling the baby Shrek in the third movie - "Shrecesito"

My sister in law calls her grandson "Cuchurumin" - though I have no idea what it means ( or how to spell it)

And a neice of mine is called "Chiolin" by some relatives. Again, I have no idea what it means!
