ohahakehte,
Where do you live? If it's a larger city, there may be plenty of PT work around to make ends meet (or more). Or there may be just a couple of really good PT jobs that add up to a FT salary. People come to these forums and brag all the time about using their initiative to do just that and score 500,000-700,000 yen/month. Prove them right, I say! (Oh, and best of luck, of course.) |

It is true what Glenski said (about the braggers), but I know it is possible, knowing a few people that have done self sponsorship. The only problem you'll have is you need your income in writing from the various part-time gigs to do self sponsorship. As to the income, if you hustle in an urban area it is very doable.

Yeah, I heard one ex-NOVA instructor was pushed in front of a moving car by another ex-NOVA instructor just after an interview with Interac.

| I put together a few PT's during my last two years in Japan and did nicely. I taught at a vocational college during the day, taught two nights a week at a language school, and two nights a week at another college that sent me to teach courses at businesses. I had the safety net of an employed Japanese wife and a spousal visa, but the money was there. I don't recommend it as an indefinite thing, but as a patch it can easily be done. |
