Helen Doron in Shanghai contacted me after I have sent them my CV through email. They wanted to know :

1) expected salary

2) housing expectation

3) any other allowance

4) any air-travel ticket

and i was wondering if anyone in here is working in Helen Doron or used to work there or have heard from a friend about their experience in working with the Learning Center?

Really need some advice about this because the person that contacted me is waiting for my reply~~

I assume she is a recruiter acting as the middle women between you and the potential school. Does she have a website? If not that surely is a red flag. Can she offer any contact details of former teachers who have been satisfied with her services? Once again if not then thats a second red flag.

I went over their site for Shanghai and they will take anyone and train and everything is up for grabs. Shanghai is the main branch. Training is for three weeks.

so i guess the place is pretty good, right? i was wondering if anyone could give me a heads-up of the salary range for teachers like gymboree or helen doron, and what kind of accommodation should i ask for? i'm a newbie in this (never been working abroad) welcome for suggestions

For someone just starting it's okay but the wage is about half of what someone with experiance could get in a place like Shanghai for the hours they want you to work. 12 hours with small kids can pay up too 8,000 RMB a month plus accommodation etc in some of the big cities here. So 24 hours for about 6,000 is low for Shanghai as others are getting up to 14,000 RMB. So you are doing double the hours for the same pay as a place that pays well for small kids. Do your first year with them but start looking around at the end for a better paying job!

well i was thinking to maybe ask for 9000 rmb from the learning center in shanghai, do you think it's reasonable? and the working hours for a full-time would be like 16 hours per week. but i'm not sure what is the rate per hour. and how much or what should i request for the housing accommodation and other allowance?

i think that is a huge amount if you are a newbie. do you have any training/certification/relevant degree?

i lived in beijing, not shanghai, but i would say 3000 rmb spending money (after tax, accommodation) is plenty in terms of living costs. 11000 a month - you should save half that easily, if not 8000 which would work out at savings of between $8000$12,000 a year - an enormous amount.

if they offer a newbie that, they are out of their minds.

I had a look at their website and understand that you first have to do their teaching course. But I can't find anything on how much this course costs. Surely they won't give it to you for free.

6000 for Shanghai is way too low, sure you can live of 3RMB noodles, but Shanghai is expensive. If you are planning on working for 6000 a month make sure accommodation is included.

11,000RMB is good for Shanghai, however since you are a newbie I doubt you will get that. A good deal for a newbie would be in the range of 6000 to 8000 with accommodation included. If no accommodation then aim for between 7000 and 9000 a month. However remember it also depends on your qualifications and the amount of lessons required to teach. Another thing to consider if you have between 12 and 20 lessons a week you can always seek to supplement your income with some part time work. That could boost your income up to 10,000.
