|

so have decided to take up the Mexico City job and booked my flight. Leaving Jan 4th (perfect time after the fun and frolics of Xmas and New Year are finished with).
I'm a 28yr old British woman who is going to know NO-ONE when she arrives so would love some advice on somwhere to go out for food/drink in the first few weeks (from what I gather I'm going to be in the Condesa area). It'd be nice to meet up with a few people too in order to get some idea about the do's and don'ts of DF....
Any words of wisdom much appreciated! |

Congratulations!
D.F is a great place to live! I have only been here for a short while (nearly a year and a half) but I am hooked, and not likely leaving anytime soon (or ever!).
Where will you be working?
I live fairly close to Condesa so if you would like to meet up sometime after you arrive I would be more than happy to do so. Condesa is a great area, with a fabulous stip of restaurants. It can be pricey however.
As well, Guy is always busy organizing a get-together of one type or another so look out for announcements once you arrive. |

Quite a few of us - including several that don't post here - live in the Roma/Condesa area, and we have get togethers nearly every weekend, with some of the major outings announced here. I'm sure we'll all be happy to meet up with you. |

You'll be very welcome and your students will love a Brit (but then I'm biased ). Mexico City is not as daunting as it looks, despite its size. My previous offer stands - just PM me when you arrive.

I'm looking forward to meeting you once you arrive, at one of Guy's get-togethers. I live in Colonia Cuauhtmoc, not too far from Roma and Condesa. By the way, Condesa has two lovely parks, one right next to the other. Parque Espaa and Parque Mxico.
Muy bienvenida! |

Parque Mexico is fabulous! My two dogs love it (specifically when all the fountains are turned on and gushing water!). It is certainly a great spot. |

wow - thanks for all the positive responses and I'm sure I will be meeting some of you at one of the get-togethers that seem to happen reassuringly often!
I'm taking up a position at IH which is why i'm assuming I'll be in the Condesa area (I may be wrong but based on my research and your comments I hope not). |

IH HQ is just a bit south of Condesa, in Napoles I believe. Close enough, especially if you're living nearby. Getting around in that area is easy with the subway, the Metrobus on Insurgentes Ave, or taxis. You'll be right in the middle of everything pretty much. |
