I'm pretty sure this has been covered but I've been busy getting things ready for my move since I only have a little over two weeks before I have to be out of my house (the new family moves in December 17).
My wife and I will be heading to DF around February or late March, depending on the contracts for the college we'll get for the spring semester.
Not sure if we'll be flying or driving but either way I'll have a German Rottweiler with me. He's a pup still. 11 months and 95 lbs already. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think I'll need something from the vet showing all of the shots he's had up to this point. Will that need to be translated into Spanish and just show it to whoever at the crossing? I want to make sure I'll have what I need to get my doggie into Mexico with us. I'm assuming someone brought a dog with them from the States.
Muchas Gracias y Feliz Navidad!! |

I brought my two cats with me. Needed shot records up to date and with the one-year rabies vaccine, not the 3 year. Also needed a health certificate stating that the animal was in good health. All those were in English. But to be honest, I got thru customs without them checking the papers! But the cats were "carry on". A 95-lb Rott isnt going to fit under a seat! So I would assume that you will have a slightly more formal process. The papers are the same for a dog (when I was married and living in Arizona, we used to bring the dog with us camping).
Youre going to have an interesting time living in DF with such a big dog! Dixie has two dogs and they are a handful to take care of. Im sure she'll chime in with more up-to-date info than what I have. |

Thanks Thel. My Rottie will be right at 170 lbs once he's fully grown. His dad was 170 and his mom was 145, so he has some more growing to do. |

Okay....here comes my all-knowing self!
Thelmadatter was right about what you need: all shots must be up-to-date and you need to have the paperwork. As well you need ot have a health certificate indicating that the dog is in good health. This needs to be written within five days of entering Mexico.
This is particularly important if you are flying. I messed up on the timeline and was almost forced to pay for the airport vet to check Tequila. Thankfully, the lady was nice and accepted the paper.
As for the border, when I left Mexico the first time I drove home and no one asked for any paperwork regarding Tequila (although I did have the same as above, just in case they did).
It really is quite simply. Just make sure the dog is use to his crate and you should be good to go!
Do you know where you will be living?? Mexico is pretty good for its parks, esp. Parque Mexico...doggy heaven!
Good Luck! |

I brought my Golden Retriever to Mexico via Alaska Airlines from Vancouver. We were required to preclear US Immigration and had to produce an International Health Certificate dated not more than 72 hours prior to the journey. I was asked again to produce the vet certificate, upon arrival into Mazatlan airport.

Thanks Sam and Dixie! I will be living in Vi olipia apts. Sorry, I know I spelled that wrong. My wife owns one of the units so me and my big Rottie will be residing there. It's the apts that is probably within walking distance to the Perisur Mall. |

Ahhh...way down south. Im not familiar with that area, but hopefully there will be a good park nearby! |

hopefully Dixie. I'm not too sure if living in the south will make it harder for me to get to a job but I'm sure everything will be OK. How long have you been in DF? |

Nearly a year and a half.
Depends on where your job is. The only thing about the area is that there are no metro stations nearby. Although I am sure there are plenty of peseros that you will be able to catch. There is a Tec de Monterry not too far from you that you might want to check out (they provide transportation). Also some schools in the Pedregal area (private elementary - not sure if youre interested in that age level).

Thanks again Dixie. I've only taught adults here in the States but I think I'll give young learners a try if I can find something once I arrive. |
