Arioch - thanks for your comments, let me clarify:
my meaning was that is someone were to reply to the OP and say 'yes, i teach at ****** University & it's wonderful....' then lots of people would immediately accuse this person of being a recruiter ad nauseum. (must say haven't come across Anda's helpful-sounding posts)
this is enough to stop most people posting recommendations - who can be bothered with the endless questions & accusations? (not me, that's for sure)
this was my meaning behind the 'hounded out' comment - it wasn't directed at anyone in particular, i'm not sure who you thought i meant (the OP?). It was based on my reading this forum and seeing anyone posting positive comments treated with a high-degree of suspicion.
Of course, if someone qualified & able to string a sentence together asked the same question it would be interesting to see the response - i guess many would choose to PM rather than post publicly in an effort to save their dignity.

agreed, with the bad english would counting for more in my book. |

I do agree that overall we are too negative.
Take a look at the current Help, Helen school thread. Anda is always giving tons of links, info, etc. Very suspicious. He must be a plant
I try never to speak positively or negatively about a school on this forum if you are in country for a while, it can cause problems.
likewise i don't recommend schools to someone without knowing a little about the person.
Honestly I think this may have been a troll. Kind of strange,"i have no degree, please tell me of a good school to work at" |

what the hell is wrong with you people? all i asked was which schools do you think are good school. why does everybody(well almost everybody) think that they have to be complete a-holes in here. however, i was warned that this web site is patrolled with a lot of sad little people.
i do not think that i need to have perfect grammer for you lot as you already speak english and dont need to view the correct spelling, grammer etc etc.
ive been a teacher for a while and all other teachers i know have shit grammer, spelling etc so why is this website full of pompous little tw*ts that have nothing better to do than to reply with seriously unwitty, boring and generally unhelpful replys. you need to get a life. |

Bazz, the comments about your writing skills should be taken to heart. You are a language teacher. Be it grammar awareness, teaching ability or personality in the classroom, every teacher has the potential to improve. Bettering your English language skills will only enhance your ability to teach. |

Look, the way I write is the way i speak. Obviously when i am teaching I take more care of my grammar and spelling etc.
If you lot talk like you write then I hope I never have the misfortune of meeting any of you as you all sound incredibly boring. You come across as being arrogant snobs, with a few exeptions, such as Judge Dread.
I doubt very much that any of you meet the standards you are trying to achieve in this forum in real life.
I also doubt that any of you (again with the few exeptions) actually have students who are at all interested in anything you have to say.
Teaching english requires personality and very few of you guys seem to have that.
I came in here and asked a simple question. My English probably didn't meet the dizzy heights of you fantastic, super teachers, however that wasnt really my concern.
Some people spend way too much time in forums, effectivley shunning themselves from the real world, where they don't run around acting like arrogant pr*cks.
However it is no excuse. Get a life.
If you guys don't waste any more of my time then i promise that I will try better with my English in future, just to keep you bawhieds happy. |

Bazzap, you lazily came here, and asked us to find you a friggin job, and now you are upset because you can't find anyone willing to do it. With your apparent lack of skills, and/or qualifications, how could you expect anyone in good conscience to make any recommendations as to a proper school for you? Why would you expect us to make any reasonable effort on your behalf, when you weren't willing to make one on your own behalf, as cited in your initial post? Most good schools become that way because they tend to hire decent teachers. Most of us that are in good schools are here because we A. We're qualified B. Paid our dues C. Just flat got lucky (hehe! probably the latter for me!) All this being said, I'd be happy to recommend a few here in Xi'an for you, but I don't think you'd like em. That's not to say you wouldn't be a good fit, I just don't think you'd be happy. In any case, dead wrong of you to assume that just because your weren't treated with kid gloves when you showed up here, that the posters that did it lack personality. They must be doing something right, because unlike you they ain't looking for jobs! I do wish you all the best in your search!
Zhuhao,
Shawn |

I try to help on Dave's where I can but I also attempt to judge if the person is going to be a good teacher. At a high school in a city I know there are 5 foreign teachers but only one of the five will answer a hello from a student outside of the classroom.
Considering that sometimes we as teachers can help or destroy the future of some of our students due to how we teach in class I tend to expect a fair standard of writing skills to be show here on Dave's, especially from someone asking for a job recommendation.
Your question was very open ended and did not state age of students or the type of work place that would interest you. This makes answering you very difficult.
For instance you can get a government position with Jiangsu Education teaching in government schools with what you have but the starting pay is only around 3,000 RMB a month with accommodation, four weeks paid holidays and airfare for about 16 hours a week.
In regard to being a bore in class! Below are some of the materials I use with my students. You see we all judge!

Confession by Bruce Lansky
I have a brief confession
that I would like to make.
If I dont get it off my chest
Im sure my heart will break.
I didnt do my reading.
I watched TV instead while munching cookies, cakes, and chips
and cinnamon raisin bread.
I didnt wash the dishes.
I didnt clean the mess.
Now there are roaches eating crumbs
a million, more or less.
I didnt turn the TV off.
I didnt shut the light down.
Just think of all the energy
I wasted through the night.
I feel so very guilty.
I did a lousy job.
I hope my students dont find out
that I am such a slob.

Question Answer 1
1. I heard that you are building a space rocket Sue?
2. My sister is a terrible / bad cook. What is your sister like Tom?
3. My brother joined the Army. He thinks that its a good job, what do you think?
4. My mom wants to get a job. Does you mom have a job?
Yes, she does, shes:
5. My brother is studying hard because he wants a good job in the future. How about you,
what do you want to do when you finish your education / schooling?
6. I want to get a pet snake Sue! What kind of pet would you like to get?
7. Yesterday I saw a bank get robbed. Do you want to hear what happened?
Yes I do, tell me all about it!
Well this is what happened:

As this is somewhat related to this thread and topic, let me tell all you boys and girls a little story and you can take from it what you will.
In late August of this year, my school had more or less hired a young fellow to teach . . . ??? Which classes and levels I don't know. Also, I don't know if a formal contract had been signed as of that time but the potential employee was given my email address to ask some questions about the school. I didn't paint my school in all sorts of shades of rose, but I did tell him that, overall, my school was head and shoulders above others that I've either taught at myself or have read/heard about here at Dave's and elsewhere. We exchanged 3 or 4 emails, he asking more about young(er) FTs that worked here and about nearby night life and, oh yeah, does the school screw you over on holidays? Not too many questions about the actual teaching procedures and other more professional type questions. But I played along and answered the best I could, again in mostly positive tones.
It turns out he opted for something else and I nor my school ever heard from him again. He seems to have gone to Korea and worked at "several" different jobs (none of which worked out) before returning home to the US. How do I know this? Because I awoke to an email from him this morning telling me so and wondering if my school was still hiring!!!!
I replied that he'd have to contact the school but if I were doing the hiring, I'd probably not due to the information he gave me in the morning email. I didn't call him names or dumped a load on him, just gave him my honest opinion. His response came quickly and sharply: "Frak you you old frak!" (didn't use "frak" by the way - - use your imagination!). My theory about him had been proven correct. |

As I was reading Bazzap's posts, I had the odd feeling that I had come across similar postings before - about three years ago, from someone who called himself "British Bulldog" (aka "British"). Does anyone remember him ? British Bulldog's thread is as follows : http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=17422&highlight=
At the time, many of those who responded to the earlier thread were of the opinion that the OP was a troll. One person even thought that he was Chinese !
What's your opinion ? "Bazzap", "British Bulldog" - one and the same ? In particular, note that in each thread, the OP responds in similar ways to criticisms re his use of grammar, etc. |

It takes a lot of work to teach and at the same time keep your students interested.
Actress in the Spotlight by strawbrry was written by a young girl that uses strawbrry as a name. I like to use such stuff as this as it is written by a child and such material like this naturally interests other children. The downside to such material is that a lot of time has to be spent on making their stories flow / read well usually. The good part is that you have a good time with your students and get teaching results.
A lot of foreign teachers here are not prepared to spend the time needed to maintain student interest plus improve their exam marks. It is no good being popular if your student's marks are dropping. The parents here in China are exam crazy in regards to marks so your teaching method has to produce exam results. |

I've think you hit the nail on the head. At least, it seems his true purpose is try to pick a fight. Again, in all his protestations about being average Joe looking for a good school, he doesn't even give the slightest indication of what he wants in a school. Most posters truly looking for some direction about schools tell what they are looking for
Mark this thread down as a waste of time |

oh my god you guys are completly insane!
anda.... holy shite... was that a bloody thesis you wrote?? i never read it anyway. what did it have to do with my question?
i am not british bulldog and i am not trying to pick a fight. i am not looking for someone to get me "a frigging job". i merely requested some names of good schools that i could apply for. jesus, surely it is up to the schools if they employ me or not and not a bunch of pompous arrogant sods in some stupid bloody forum.
i hope you are all happy together in your little forum world but i recommend that some of you get out for some fresh air. you are, for the most part, insane.
in a nutshell:
Q: can anybody recommend any good schools?
A's: a whole load of nonsense and accusations that had very little to do with the question.
travelling to other parts of the world is supposed to expand peoples minds and disband their prejudices. however i am afraid with some people it just turns them into complete and utter morons.
i am guessing that some of you are arrogant recent university graduates.
and how the hell does someone remember a thread from 3 years ago??
my god! you won't be hearing fom me again so please feel free to waste your time with some ridiculous over the top 50,000 word replies. you may also insult me and ridicule me as much as you like but i won't be reading any of it.
you guys are characterless and obviously have way too much time.
however, some of you actually gave me a little information and some of you didnt abuse me in any way. you guys i dont include in the above post.
goodbye morons. |

Most of the people on this board are self tittled teachers.
In all seriousness, if you want to hold out on giving the guy advice, why instead give him a load of grief. |
