I currently work in Korea but think a transition is coming in the spring. I'm considering Thailand (Phuket), possibly for a long term stay.

I watched "Sicko" last night and plan not to spend my golden years in the US. So, I am curious as to what I might expect for medical care in Thailand if I get as comfortable as I anticipate I will.

Statistically speaking, more people travel to Thailand for health care than any other country in the world, including the US, because of the low cost and quality. I've lived in Chiang Mai and Bangkok and I've had several motorbike accidents and some broken bones and other assorted injuries and have always been treated with the utmost respect and care. I can't speak for other cities but CM and BKK are top notch. Dental care is also incredibly affordable and the quality is also outstanding.

Agree with Rico. My wife and I have both had cause to use hospitals in Thailand (in cities and in clinics in more remote areas. Found them great.

I'm currently considering getting some health insurance here. There is one policy -- 450 or 600 baht per year--involving accidents. Covers you up to 20,000 baht in outpatient service and a lot more if you have to go into hospital (100,000 baht I think -- the details are not in front of me). But yes I agree with the other statements.
