Hi,

I've been trying to find a region code free DVD player (that plays DVDs from all around the world) for use in Taiwan. Every time I think I've found a place, their shipping is absurd! ($199 US or more!)

Anyway, is there anyway to convert DVD players to play all regions?

OR

Does anybody know a cheaper way to get a region code free DVD player?

Help please Smile

Thank you!
Lauren

I used to own an LG DVD player in Thailand. It was region specific to Asia. I was able to have my staff call a toll free number and they talked my staff through the code numbers, etc. to make the machine region free. Code numbers entered through the remote control.

I have heard Sony is hard to unlock.

Easy way to test it is have a DVD from Europe or N. America and another from Asia. Go to a electronic store and pop them both in the demo machine.

Cheaper brands with names you have never heard of are probably unlocked; because they save money by not programming it into the coding.

It's fairly easy to find one here, definitely easier than getting one in North America. Many of the "Made In Taiwan" brands are already region-free. You just need to walk into any 3C store and ask which ones are. Some of them have English menus, too. The "Made in China" models don't have a good reputation for quality, though.

Wow! This all seems like great news! Thanks for the speedy replies!

What's a 3C store, though? We tried Carrefour and NOVA, and I'm not sure if it's lack of English skill, but they denied having Code-Free players.

Thanks again!

3C stores are a chain of electronic stores. You can recognise them because the store front is yellow.
