So how much gets shut down in New Years break? I wanna hit Akihabara tommrow, but I don't wanna go all the way and have most or all of the stores closed. Is it before or after New Years when things close up?

Shouldn't you go after when the sales season starts.

I would, but I really want to grab a Xbox controller now, so I can play over the holidays, mine's all crapped out, and I don't wanna wait. I was there a week ago and a couple of stores had em much cheaper so I was just wondering if it was worth the trip out.

I just checked Yodobashi Akiba's site, and they are definitely open on the 31st- they have a year end sale going until then. I can't find anything about when they reopen for 2008, but if you go tomorrow, Yodobashi at least will be open.
