I'll be going to Thailand next month (Ban Phe) and would like to know if insulin is available in pharmacies there. If so, is it easily obtainable, or is a prescription required? This'll be my first time in Thailand so I'm a little anxious about this. Thanks for your help.

Lonestar, a friend of mine suffers from Diabetes, however he has no problems obtaining the insulin he needs from a good pharmacy.

You should have no worries at all, however if you are visiting for a short trip, or even a long stay it may be advisable for your health carer to write a covering letter for you to explain what quanity of insulin is needed to maintain your correct sugar balance. Wink

Does anyone know if Lamisil (generic name - Terbinafine) an antifungal medication is available in Bangkok? And is it by prescription only or OTC?

Cheers, thanks what does 15grams mean? Were they the tablets? Sorry I should have been more specific.

It looked like a tube - it was in a box, which I did not open.

On the outside of the box were the words Lamisil and Terbinafine.

Just about everything in Asia is in metric these days - you do the math. Laughing

Regarding the cost - Watson's is a little on the pricey side;

when you get here be sure to check corner drugstores,

they are ALWAYS cheaper than the big chain stores.

Do you think they would sell the tablets over the counter, or would I have to go get a prescription over there?

Cheers

You're gonna make me go back there, aren't you? Laughing

I'm pretty sure you won't need to have a prescription,

fyi - antibiotic medicines are available here OTC,

but I'll check on the tablets for ya tomorrow.

I passed another drugstore on my way home this evening and stopped to check on tablets.

They were in stock - a box of 14 [250 mg each] is 1,280 Baht, no prescription needed.

I use the cream for a nail infection.

It is available Boots, Watsons and almost anywhere, no prescription.

Antifungal tablets work faster and better than creams, but check with a doctor or pharmacist because many of the 'normal' and older brands were shown to be liver-toxic.
