I know all us EFL teachers are a kind-hearted lot really. So, why not make a New Year's resolution to do a little class project, whoever you are teaching, whether it be kids or businesspeople, to make a donation to this school, who teach untouchable children in India and have a very good philosophy.

Have a lovely New Year.

Dear soapdodger,
What a great idea. I googled the project and found this:

"The methods used tap the most powerful potential we possess - the potential to be wise and kind. The Alice Project is the brainchild of Valentino Giacomin and Luigina de Biasi, former school teachers from Italy, who in 1994 bought a piece of land in Sarnath, India and built a school to realize a dream.

The schools following Alice Project methodology practice universal spirituality. On the front door of our school in Sarnath, there is a board where all the symbols of all religions are represented.

We believe that we should help our students to know themselves and how their mind is working. We teach them through our personal and practical experience not through dogmas or theories. We do not say to them change, actually we suggest them not to change, but TO BE. If you are Hindu, be a wonderful Hindu.

If you are Christian, be a great Christian. If you are Muslim, be a saint Muslim. If you are Buddhist, be an holy Buddhist... When we will become holy, there will be no more difference"

which sounds fantastic to me. I'll take your suggestion and get all my ESL classes here in Santa Fe NM involved (and speak to the other teachers about it as well).

Regards,
John

Johnslat, welcome back! I've missed you.

Thank you, too, Soapdodger, for reminding me of how teaching can be.

To all of you, wherever you are, have a very happy New Year.
