Apparently, Banamex's servers were hacked around Christmas, so Prodigy took drastic measures and is blocking port 25 (how your computer sends email when you use Outlook, Thunderbird, etc, but not hotmail or gmail).

Blocking this port means no one in a country of 108,000,000 people can send email on very popular email clients, including me.

I once again wish to thank Telmex for their wonderful work. Rolling Eyes

Been on the phone much of the day with KleptoMex trying to figure it out. Not sure if it explains yahoo issues, but it very well might.

If you run on the basic 1 meg DSL package for Internet connection, yoll experience the problem. On these DSL routers, Telmex has been blocking use of port 25 to send email through SMTP email servers, which you might only use if you have Eudora, Outlook, or any non-webmail client to send and receive your email. They 'claim' this is being done to combat spam, and offer a way to unblock the port to send email...by upgrading to a slightly more expensive DSL package. No way around it.

So, Merry Christmas Mr. Slim, who will be earning at least 100 pesos per month from anyone affected by this cash grab.

After just returning from the break and trying to get in touch with people again, I also found a stack of messages that would not move from my outbox. Incoming mail no problem, but nothing outgoing from my house (connected to Infinitum).

Craziness, but there is a webpage (telmex.com ????) that has a link at the very bottom that allows you to request that port 25 be opened. I did not have to sign-up for a different plan.

Still what a hassle. Well, welcome back.

Pablo

I tried that link on the Telmex site but it wouldn't go through. Still waiting for them to upgrade the DSL package for it to work.

Quite certain that you will manage internet access, Guy. Despite TelMex' most recent mess-up.

It hasnt perfectly worked yet for me but I can send the odd email. Who knows why one is rejected and not the other but that seems to be the situation...even after my request to open port 25. Hmmmm.

Here's the link for TelMex that if you promise to behave yourself will get port 25 unblocked...

Oh the delicious irony..seeing beneficios and Telmex in the same url.

This auto report doesn't work for me, so the support guys have sent in another kind of report to report on the initial report's reporting failure. They expect a report in response to the reporting report at some unspecified time in the future.
