A decade or so ago I spent quite a few years in Seki. Is anyone there now and what do you think of it. I"d be interested to know how the place has changed

I'm not sure when it opened, but there's an Aeon/Jusco there now with an 8-theatre cinema, showing movies in English, across the street. It has virtually made the Honmachi area a ghost town. Another big change was the closing of the passenger rail service. The closest one is a 40-minute drive to Meitetsu or JR in Gifu city. A highway has been built, conveniently connecting Seki to other prefectures. The geographical size of Seki has increased quite a bit after merging with many neighbouring communities. Those are the big changes I can think of at the moment.

No train service! Zoinks! That would have done me in. It was a real lifeline to Gifu and Nagoya. English movie theatre. Bonus. And the place really needed a decent department store. Honmachi was dying a slow death even then.

Thanks for the update. Did you work there?
