I've not stayed at either, but I like the building the City Hostel is in. They've done it up nicely. The only advantage I could think of for Catedral would be the great bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Always hopping.

I liked that when I stayed there - great place to meet people if you are travelling solo too. But...

SWMBO went there yesterday with a friend. Totally different experience than when we last used their bar. Like said before - no beer without a proper meal. Unfriendly. Things have changed it seems...

I almost forgot. Walked by another hostel the other day in Zona Rosa. It`s next to the gambling casino across from 158 Hamburgo. There`s vinyl placard signage in front of its alley that advertises the cost as only 15 USD and its open 24 hour policy. I don`t know anything else about the hostel but considering its location must be great for the all night crowd.

Most definitely for the all-night crowd. Live music every day of the week until 3 AM and onward. If you're looking for sleep, Zona Rosa is not the place. 15 usd per night is reasonable for the area.
