|
|
Hi,
Can anyone send me a link or just tell me what movies are available at the theaters in Japan?
I live in Korea and am dying (and will travel to see) No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood (both from America).
I also would love to see:
Atonement, Eastern Promises, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, 3:11 to Yuma, Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, Superbad, Juno, Once, The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, and several others.
Please help! This really is important to me... I've been waiting for the first two movies for years. |

Japan is better at getting some movies now, as they come sooner (usually a 6 month delay), but some never come as the movie theater owners may assume they are not geared for Japanese audiences and they can't mke a buck. I have seen most of what I want to see on video, but we don't have the Taiwanese equivalent of MTV (movie-TV) or its sister in Korea here in Japan.
I'm guessing many of these haven't come here yet (if ever) as I have never heard of most of them except for the Jesse James movie and the Butterfly one, but they're coming, I believe not released here as yet. |

I read somewhere that 'No Country For Old Men' will be out here in Japan in April. You've been waiting for it for years? Just two, right? I mean the book was only first published in 2005.
Anyway, NCFOM is fu*@ing brilliant! One of the best movies I've ever scene. Bardem is one scary badass. The Coen Brothers are back with a vengeance after a couple of loads of crap. This one reminded me a bit of 'Blood Simple.'
Guess I'm not making it any easier for you to wait, am I? |

I generally grab a copy of Metropolis, that usually gives me some idea whats playing and where in the Tokyo area. I miss being back home where it was easier to catch more indie stuff (in english that is) when it was relativley fresh. I have know idea when Darjeeling Limited is hitting Japan, or if I should just wait for my Bro to ship me the DVD. For TV I use the internet and sites like EZTV. With NBC and othersites blocking outside countries from watching clips, it's the only way I can get my Conan O'Brian fix now that he's back on. |

Hate to burst your bubble but that service is only available if you are in the UK. Those of us in Japan miss out. |

Yes, indeed, only available if you're in the UK.
However, you can probably find a lot of British tv needs satisfied here -
www.uknova.com
You have to sign up and will initially be told there are no membership places available, but keep trying and you'll get on after a week or so. Most people who use uknova will tell you it's worth the wait.
I think this thread went on something of a British tangent totally unrelated to what the OP was asking. But, looking for a tenuous link back on track here, torrent downloads are perhaps also the OP's best bet for some of those movies. As has already been mentioned, many western moviegoers actually find Japan quite disappointing and it's very expensive too. |
