|
|
Hello all.
If you are to change money in Prague there are a number of ways you can do this and I have listed them as 'Advisable' and 'Non-Advisable'.
Advisable
-----------
1. Change up at a bank such as CSOB (Mon to Fri only).
2. Change up at this exchange office (a diamond in the rough) :
http://www.aktivchange.cz/webaktiv2/en0.php
3. Change up at the airport upon arrival.
Non-Advisable
----------------
1. Change money on the street.
Please, NEVER do this!!!
2. Change money up at an exchange office.
Note: exchange offices buy and sell currency so if you are exchanging for example USD for CZK then you will be buying.
Those high rates you see on their boards are for people selling (buying foreign currency).
The official CZK to USD rate is approx 17.5 now.
The exchange offices advertise in some cases 23 but this is only if you want to buy USD with CZK and if you are getting rid of USD and buying CZK then you can receive as low as 13!!! - losing a third+ of your money.
(CZK is the local Czech currency).
Hope it helps! |

wait til you get here to change money. i got swindled at home, 32CZK to 1, whereas here you can get rates of 35CZK..... cost me about 600CZK.
but, the 35 rates i've seen have been in those windows Neville talks about, so maybe i didn't lose that much....
thanks for the post... |
