and the info comes tumbling in. Thanks for all this.

Got another reply via email also; (see below)

--------------------------------
2. Cell phones. Guessing that a tri-band phone would be best? Buy a sim card there? any info would be great.

Any GSM unlocked cell phone must work in Bogot. In that case you only
need to buy a SIM card.

Another option, buy here a complete cell plan, it's cheap (entry level
in about $50.000 COP per month.) this plans are anual.

3. Internet options at home/apt. DSL? Dial up? (ugh) Wifi? Has wifi
taken off in cafes yet?

Don't worry too much about it, every day more cafes goes wifi. Near to
BC must be one.

For home, you have ADSL or broadband providers to choose. You can
accquire ADSL with your landline telephone provider, and high broadband can
be provided for the TV cable provider. Both are suplemental services
rated per month.

(forget about dial up).

4. For apartment rental, how much up front is generally asked for? 2 months, 6 months, etc.

1 month

5. Teaching ESL (but, of course). In Vietnam they were game for any
teaching style we came into the classroom with, in the US, our
European and other Asian students want more of the traditiional
teacher in front of the room lecturing type of class. Any input on
Colombian student generalities would be interesting.

I prefer (as student) that a new teacher got new ways of develop a
class. Traditional ways are boring.

wasnt sure what to do with the new forum,so thus far I posted a link to this thread, thought it might be best NOT to break a pre-existing thread. Dunno. Maybe the whole thing can magically hop over. haha.
