In short - yes! It is possible to find better, I'm sure, but depending on your comittments, you should live pretty well on this salary - and good hours too!
BTW the way, I assume this is Mon-Fri, 'cos with Saturdays as well, I would have second thoughts. |

Sounds good, and way better than the split-shift life. |

Not bad at all, but here's something to watch for. Check if any of that 13k is made up of vales, which are coupons you use for purchases at grocery stores, Wal Mart, etc. On the surface they sound good, but they can be problematic. Many employers include vales in their compensation package. |

How so? They are as spendable as cash, and can be turned into groceries in a heartbeat. |

I was just discussing this last night with two teachers. They aren't bad...my thinking is that someone who isn't familiar with them might be surprised if they are given a number for a salary only to find a chunk of it isn't cash but coupons. If there are vales on top of the salary, then great...that's a bonus.
My beef with vales is that they can't be used everywhere. We buy produce, cheese, and meat at local markets as we find the quality and price better. Can't use vales there. You can't use them to pay rent, or to pay bills. Many other items we buy at Costco, and they don't accept them.
I'm not sure if this true for all, but some vales have an expiration date, so you couldn't easily horde them for savings either. Forced consumption is not my cup of tea. |

If youre in DF with your family, you should have no problem spending vales so it wont matter if youre 13K includes vales or not... however, if youre here as a single person, you will probably have trouble spending the vales. |

Gotta side with Guy... my old school used to pay us 220 pesos in vales as a little bonus on top of our salary. The catch was that they could only be used at one of the local supermarkets.
All the teachers found it a minor pain to arrange special trips around "using up" our vales. |

I agree with Guy too. They are annoying and worthless in my opinion. Give me cash and the right I deserve to spend what I earn where I want, when I want.
This year I have paper vales....they are even worse than the debit-type ones. You have to calculate how much you are spending in order to be able to use your vales, and not have to spend your cash (which you can use anywhere, at any time).
Now, if I could use them at costco, buy my dog and ferret supplies with them, okay. But I cannot. And as Guy said, I dont like being forced to "spend" them, just because I need to have a certain total at the check-out or becuase they are about to expire. |

I agree with thelma about if you have a family, no problem. I like LS get a rather small amount of vales and it is on top of my salary, not part of it. What we get in a month doesn't cover half of our weekly grocery bill and we buy everything we can at the market and only buy things like milk and cereal with them. I buy my dog food at the ISSTE store so my vales do pretty much cover that (it's about 200 pesos for a bag that lasts them a month.
But where I live you can sometimes get away with paying other people with your vales from time to time, like say the mechanic, plumber, landlady, because they can spend them like cash.
And they are good until the end of the calendar year, so you can save them up to buy a large ticket item like a washing machine.
You can also buy boose with them at the large stores, so, just save them until your next party Guy!
What would suck for a single person is that you can't send them to your student loan company! Or save them for longer than a year.
If you want to make a charitable donation, orphanages and woman's shelters are usually happy to recieve them as well.
Back to the original topic, from the hours I assume that's teaching primary or secondary? It sounds good to me--especially if you enjoy that age.
How many days of paid vacation? |

My friends who receive Vales love them. I don't think many Mexicans would complain about them. Melee mentioned a few great ways to use them. |
