|

As I am new here and have spent a fair chunk of change getting set-up I have decided to stick around here for Chinese New Year. So I was wondering what everyone is doing? What exotic places are on the agenda this holiday? One last question is where to get the best buy on a new cell phone? I will be going to Shenzen would that be better than here? |

Shenzhen would only be the place to go for a portable phone if you had your heart set on paying at least twice as much as you would here in HK for the identical model and if you especially wanted to run the risk of having the contraption blow up in your face. |

I am staying in town for the entire CNY break. I'll be taking a long weekend after that to get away.
Check out the package deals on Cathay Pacific: a 3-day weekend in KLL or SIN, including airfare and hotel, can be quite reasonable, outside of CNY of course!
re: mobile phones: tell your service-provider that your phone is broken and try to negotiate a good deal on another one. It may take another year to reap the benefits of the monthly rebate, etc., but it should be cheaper than buying a "stand-alone" phone. My opinion is that buying in Shenzen would be dodgy...but I am new to HK, so what do I know? |

I will be staying in HK for the CNY as well this year. Two of my former coworkers are coming down from Seoul to hang out, so it should be some good times. I'm going to wait till my Easter vacation to do some traveling because the tickets are much cheaper at that time than during CNY. |

best prices for cellphones I've found is the cellphone mall in MongKok. I've now bought 4 there (2 for myself, 1 for mum and 1 for a mate back in NZ) and all of them worked (and are still working) perfectly. Prices on some were 1/2 what Fortress were selling them for.
I'm prob staying here unfortunately. Just too damn expensive to travel anywhere over CNY. Shame as it's the longest break I get other than the Summer hols. Waste of a good 14 days really. But when airtickets are double to anywhere over that time, what can we do? |

I am also planning to come to HK next week, but I just can't find any room below 300 RMB. Do you know any cheap hostels or guesthouses that you or your friends have tried? |

I believe that those of us who wrote that we are "staying in HK" mean that we are staying in our flats or houses that we currently live in within the HK SAR...we are not "planning to come to HK" during CNY.

Locative constructions are used differently in Polish. And, in fact, they are ones whose sophistication and usage are lost on most Anglophones.
Perhaps you'd be a little more tolerant of peoples' writing if you brought yourself to realize that English isn't the apex of semantics?

ummm...who was being intolerant?
Renata's post was fine, and I wish her/him all the best in the search for reasonable lodging.
Enjoy yourself.

Uhh, that is why I always think twice before posting anything here, not being a native, but being a teacher has its price :/
and I am a girl.
anyway, I managed to find something cheap enough, I can spend 280 RMB and avoid staying in dirty and crowded Guangzhou for CNY. |
