Just curious how other language schools are doing now, a while after the NOVA event???

Personally I seem to have gotten more students, and my days are now busier, aaaah! - same for my colleagues.

And my school is changing it's policies regarding pay, after a "bad year for language schools"... so whilst it doesnt affect my existing contract, new teachers won't be offered an end of contract bonus anymore, and some other monthly fee is being deducted from their salary.

So wanted to see how everyone else is doing....

Yeah, I am going very soon - only a few weeks left on my contract here. Then off to Vietnam...

I've been told that ECC's customer base has grown by more than 30%. Don't know if it's true, but they're definitely changing policies regarding customer contracts so they don't fall into the same trap Nova did.

Student numbers at my school are about the same or slightly higher than last year.

There are about the same number of teachers as well.

The biggest change is the discontinuation of the incentive system. Essentially the more students you taught, the more pay you received. Many teachers are loosing tens of thousands of Yen with the new contracts without the incentive scheme. The pay is still higher than industry averages, I suppose.

I dont know the exact figures for my place - but it seems like the few teachers I know have more students now... but my school just announced that new teachers signing their first year contract will not get any bonus at all!!!! wow.
