Very many people are asking this question, why I should come and working in Kazakhstan and, here, we will answer all of your questions.
First the weather is very interesting for Europeans people, as we share a seasonal climate. If you are unlucky to live in the north, you would find the weather conditions similar to Alaska, or the north of England, or Scotland. Also, can be very rainy like in Britain, but Kazakhstan have more mud, outside of apartment.
Next, the people are extremely friendly, and if you dont go the bars, the Kazakh men will not beat you.
After this, there is the food, which is including beshbermak our local recipe, with horse sausage, in soup, which is eat with fingers, and hard cheese balls, which they make in old ladies armpit. Also, you can buy vegetables, in green bazaar.
Now about the Contract. The contract, for working in our school is a good one. We can give you visa, because one of our students father chief of immigration, thats no problem.
We can give you apartment, with a door close to school. Contract stipulation that apartment should have telephone, but its difficult to find such a one, but you can use telephone in the school, its no problem, and if after school closed security maybe can let you in. Apartment also has TV, and bed.
Working ours, about 22, but you can work more. Every students MUST pass school, and national exam, because of money they pay. Many of our students are from very rich family and can buy anything that they want. Also, as teacher you must be popular, and have good discipline of students, and be kind to find the key to their hearts.
School also gives medical insurance. If teacher becomes ill we take him to a hospital, many of our teachers have husband or wife who work in local hospital so you see health insurance, thats no problem.
All our foreign teacher paid in US dollar. Better, if we can keep your money for you, in case apartment door not so good, and have stairway with drug addicted people. You can ask for money any time, but unfortunately cannot give to you, if director away from school. After finish contract, you can put all money inside trouser (underpant) when you leave Kazakhstan. If customs official find money normally could be a problem for you, because no will have paid tax, but we have student who father head of custom so custom thats no problem.
Foreign teachers in Kazakhstan really can live like a king. Much better than local teachers so local teacher maybe wont like you. Still, have many foreign worker for you to meet and socialize with, like oil worker and American soldier.
So you see, no problem to come, and work, in Kazakhstan. |

For discussion sake, I'll respond to various aspects of it, as I'm interested in Kazakhstan.

Actually, Almaty looks damn cold - colder than Moscow when I compared it recently.

This is Kazakhstan in general? Dirty streets? Does this include Almaty as well?

Hmm...wait a minute. So if you go into the bars, they will beat you?

Horse sausage? Horse-meat is common there?
Hard cheese balls - made in old ladies armpit? What? Funny.

Drug-addicted people in the doorways? What?

haha. You could substitute the words Kazakhstan with Korea so easily in the opening post. Also enjoyed the implied comparison of Alaska and Scotland. |

The obvious reason to go to Kazakhstan is to teach the OP proper English. |

True. He doesn't paint Kazakhstan very well either. Little things like of course you'll have no security and bad locks/doors with a lot of homeless drug addicts hanging around outside your door at all times, so of course the school will keep your money at all times. When you leave, you'll have to smuggle your earnings out of the country, and when you get busted doing that, we'll bribe them for you!
Yikes! |

Nice post - worryingly accurate description of a number of teaching locations I've known in Central Asia...and elsewhere.
Whether the one or two above posters who clearly don't get the joke are American or not, I have no idea....but I do wonder how people that naive actually cope when travelling or working abroad. |

It's called 'running with a joke'.
It's clear the OP is making a big joke of things, but there are some funny things to run with along the way. |

Oh ta me ol' mucker - do you have any idea how difficult it is to recreate authentic syntax like that?
For the record, most of the stuff i wrote about living conditions reflects what astana was like around 2000, the specific references to school procedures are aimed at a school in Almaty ( they operate in Astana too, tho things werent so bad with them up there ) .
Anyway, its all for real but of course it's a biased view; still forwarned is forearmed right? |
