My husband and I are planning to leave in early 2009. Is there anything we can do before then besides the obvious in order to prepare for our overseas experience? It seems like every job i look at wants someone immediately. When do they start hiring for that timeframe? Sorry about the newbie questions, just curious. Thanks.

Many answers to your very general question will depend on where you are thinking of going. 2009 is pretty far off, in any case...

I agree with spiral. To use your own words, there is nothing "obvious" about your question because we simply don't know where you are planning to go.

Also, what may be obvious to you may not be obvious to others. Tell us what you know, and we'll try to point out any errors or confirm the truths, plus fill in gaps.
