|

Sorry, if my question sounds very general. It is for those who have already worked in Riyadh.
Which employers would you recommend in Saudi capital city to send the resume?
I am not a native speaker, but I have advanced degrees from both my home country and the USA. Experience of ESL/EFL teaching - about 15 years.
For me it is especially important to have apartment for the family and place the child to school.
Thank you for any suggestion and for your time. |

You don't provide us with what is perhaps the most crucial piece of information for any job hunter in the K of SA.
Are you male or female? |

In which case your options are rather limited.
The two private girls' colleges - Al Yamamah and PSU - both take foreign ESL teachers, but they usually require an MA in a relevant subject. King Saud university probably has the same requirement, and in any case they rarely take on foreign female teachers in ESL. That leaves the IPA, but I don't know much about them. All employers will provide you and your family with free accommodation, but education allowances vary from one place to the enxt. |

|
|
Dear advice,
I taught for 14 years in Riyadh (not continuously, I'll admit; I took "breaks" every so often in a vain attempt to preserve my sanity) at the Institute of Public Administration (I also taught another 5 years for that institute in Jeddah.)
While the Women's branch in Riyadh has very occasionally hired single female teachers, that's the exception rather than the rule (and the fact that many of those "single hires" didn't work out well hasn't helped.)
I never taught at the Women's branch (of course), so I can't offer any first-hand comments on working conditions there. I've known ladies (mostly the wives of male IPA teachers) who liked it and others who didn't. Clearly I thought the IPA Men's facilities were very good (I mean, if I stayed for a total of 19 years, I must have), but the Women's branch was Terra Incognita to me (or ANY male.)
But why not give it a try? Here is the website:
http://www.ipa.edu.sa/en/6.asp
where you can get some info and an application for employment.
All the best.
Regards,
John |
