Sheesh. Who needs "Desperate Housewives" when we got HCT threads? |

heh...
I await the news with baited breath...
Last week a friend from AD called me and we spoke a couple hours on the phone catching up. She had certainly heard nothing of these rumors, but she was here in the US, not in the UAE at the moment.
But... they do need to stem the flow of people planning to depart because of the exchange issue... and attract more applicants. It is not as though the Emirates can't afford to pay...
Interesting that Sheikh Nahyan is moving on... retiring? The raise rumor becomes repetitious, but this is a new twist.

Now, now, BillyBee. You must not be one of those who feel that 8 hours, plus a forced hour lunch break per day is reasonable!!!

That's an interesting twist.
There are a couple women that might be qualified for the role.
Qatar has a woman in charge --- doesn't seem to have hurt them. |

Arab countries often have women at the top in the Ministries of Education. That has been common for years. Education has always been considered a natural area for them to work.

Al Ain HCT were told by their director that they are getting a 25% pay increase.
I can't believe it, comments? I can't believe a director would tell his/her people. That makes this rumor 100% fake to me. |
You are absolutely right! This rumor is 100% fake and it's quite unfair to link it to this particular director. |

The director is probably not at the top of the hill from where the excrement begins to roll down. They're usually in the middle. Then the stuff continues to roll down to the lowly language teacher, the buck private in the TEFL army, who's at the bottom of the hill
Might not the director merely be passing along the raw sewage?
(Language point/ modal instruction alert: this is one of the very few subtle differences between "may" and "might"--and it's on the house) |

My colleague says announcements later this week -- possibly next week.
Unless you're a high-end supervisor - wouldn't worry too much.
There will still be students --- and they will still need to learn English.
Sure - there will be a few people picking between aisle and window --- but most of them are reasonably good at the game - and will land a new gig within a few months. |

So... now you are starting a new rumor that there will be lots of cuts?
I think I prefer 'raise' rumors.
With the problems that they are having getting enough teachers, I don't think many here need lose sleep. They could get rid of half of the supervisory/management staff and no one would notice (except for the drop in time wasting meetings...)

Friends at one of the HCT branches report a cost-cutting strategy which sees minimal 'Chairs' at the helm. One pleasant consequence has been a lack of those 'departmental meetings' which tend to act as a hindrance to getting on with one's job. |

Makes sense and something that I had suggested 15 years ago. But, why do I have this feeling that somehow they will turn this into more work for the teachers...
As Keifer mentioned about... HCT is the best soap opera in the UAE... although I will admit it is more entertaining from the outside looking in.

You may well be right, VS. However based on what some current employees say, the HCT will really have to pay up if they want teachers to take up any of the slack whatsoever. |

I would not want to be in Ms. What's-Her-Name's shoes in Abu Dhabi over at HCT HR central right now--sifting through CVs, setting up video conferencing interviews in far flung reaches of the planet.
Somebody send her a box of chocolates, a rose or something. |
