70%? Of course!

Just take the exponent, multiply by four against the square root of infinity and the increase should hit about that mark.

According to the MD, the increase takes effect from February 1st, beginning in the March payroll.

1) +30% to housing.

2) A one step pay increase (depends on your band/scale).

3) A complimentary allowance based upon each Principal's recommendations.

4) An education allowance of 60,000 AED.

At this very moment my family and I are out villa hunting, and I think there was a Mercedes or two that caught our eye.

Shocked The "step up" increase in salary is apparently a couple of hundred dirhams a month - yet to be confirmed.

'Tis true.

Two bills.

On the one hand, you could see it as a rounding error on the bill for a weekend at the Burj.

On the other hand, it's enough for dinner at Chili's, or even (dare to dream) T.G.I. Fridays.

Or, for those with the young 'uns, 30 minutes trapped inside Magic Planet.

Ho-yay!

Dear K,

IAT is covered by Daman, just as most (all?) government employees are - 50 AED deductible, 80% coverage of prescriptions. Mind you teachers only get the basic coverage, which results in a surprising dearth of, shall we say, "western style" hospitals to choose from. On the bright side, if we pony up two bills a month per family member, we get coverage at all hospitals in the UAE, and 3000 AED of dental.

We all submitted our documents in September for the switchover. Quick as lightning, four months later, most of us received our cards. However the cards will, of course, expire in June when we will promptly be issued our new cards.

And on the lighter side of things...

I do love the phrase "contractual" medical issues. I assumed that you were referring to health coverage, but a versatile phrase like that can be parsed in finer, and subtler ways.

I can just picture it....

"Well (Excellent Candidate), we really want to hire you, however there is the matter of an acute, chronic, and fatal illness."

"Sorry? I don't follow."

"As in, do you have one?"

"Why, no, I'm healthy as a oak!"

"Because, you see, it would facilitate your application if you were, say, to have an illness of some sort that would permit you to expire in and around, but not before, the contract expiration date."

"Oh? Really? I...."

"Saves on administrative costs, you see. In any event, here's swell cup of tea. It's from Polonium...sorry, I meant Poland."

"I..."

"That's a good chap. Bottom's up! And welcome to the team."

On the positive side, a whole lot of clinics in Dubai are covered, so your standard medical needs are met well enough. If you have young children, the coverage does come in handy.
