I'm currently teaching in China and plan on touring Laos and Vietnam in the summer. I realize I need a tourist visa 'prior' to entry into Vietnam but I was wondering (if anyone out there has been to Laos) if I can obtain the visa in Vientiane while I'm visiting there and then go on to Vietnam.

Any info is much appreciated.

Hi Bounder

I believe you can obtain a visa whilst in Laos to travel into Vietnam. Remember it takes up to and possibly longer than a week to arrange it.

Embassy of Vietnam in Laos Thatluang Rd., Vientiane, Laos
(856) 2141 3409
(856) 2141 3409
(856) 2141 4602
Consular: 2141 3400

You could always ring them as they don't appear to have e-mail to check.

Have a great trip.
