To get back to the topic in hand, I would tend to agree that doing a CELTA is a waste of time for teaching in China, at least if the intention is to open up the job market. Most schools couldn't care less about CELTAs; having a Degree is considered much more important. That said, I think a CELTA might help someone with no Degree at all to get a job.

I am a non-native speaker and I was offered by a recruitment agency to advertise in China because they don't care about it. I assume that pretty much means the same that CELTA or no CELTA is not important since the demand is too high.

Overseas organisations hiring teachers here sometimes take the issue of having a teaching qualifications more seriously.

Sometimes .... when they have enough applicants. But I don't know any such orgs that take a CELTA as a qualification. Usually they are looking for something more, like the Brit ???PDGE? or whatever, or some kind of teaching license
