Have a read of this story in today's Herald Sun newspaper and see how the Bali Bombers are trying hard to dodge the executioner's bullet.

Funny how after they defiantly told us all how they were willing to die for 'allah' that they seem to now be having second thoughts. Could it be they really doubt the existance of their god now that the time is almost here? Also I don't believe the Indonesian Government has the balls to go ahead with it anyway. Will believe it when I see it.

My guess is that someone has got through to them that their 'Jihad' was murder which is wholly un-Islamic. They are now behaving like any other condemned criminal, trying to avoid execution and to wriggle free. In the twisted logic of extreme elements among the Indonesian ulema the bombers did an evil act with 'noble' intentions but were led astray by unspecified others (i.e. foreign nationals). Those elements believe that rehabilitation is the answer rather than execution.

Unfortunately, I can see the Indo authorities buying this lame idea and I predict that after much further procrastination the death sentences will be commuted to life, then reduced in much the same way as Tommy Soeharto's jail term.

In neighbouring Malaysia - which, ironically, has a much more overtly Islamist judiciary - the bombers would have been executed long ago.
