Greetings.
Some bachelor housing -- apartment buildings or small villas -- is available a short drive from KSU, but expensive for an expat ES teacher.
Rather than flail around in exploring the real estate market there on your own, if you are being hired by KSU or another institution as a ESL teacher, that hiring organization has to sponsor you for your residency permit ("iqaama") and work permit, and usually assigns an apartment or other accommodations (usually shared) to each new arrival.
Company-provided housing is normally included in an employment contract, and most institutions prefer that their employees occupy quarters provided, rather than have employees scattered around the city.
The several private universities in and near Riyadh provide their employees with paid-for housing, as do most of the defense-related contractors (BAE, Raytheon, Vinnell Arabia, Lockheed-Martin, etc.) in the kingdom.
FYI, Vinnell Arabia is hiring additional ESL teachers to support an expanded workload. Details are at a new website < www.vinnellarabia.net > and navigate to the jobs section. Preference seems to be for Americans and Canadians with experience as ESL teachers.
Riyadh is permeated with large and glitzy super-malls, so most products and amenities found in Europe, UK, Asia, the US, Canada, etc. are available.
Traffic can sometimes be an ordeal, especially in the evenings when driving around in downtown Riyadh, especially along Al-Olaya Street, the main thoroughfare of the "New Riyadh" business and social district (sort of Riyadh's version of Rodeo Drive or Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles).
Hope this helps.
