did anyone see the episode of "Extras" where the character pretends to be catholic to impress a co-worker he likes and when she invites him to "go out with some friends" he accepts and gets all dressed up in his pimpin' disco clothes and it turns out she has invited him to a prayer meeting at church, during which he is exposed as a non-catholic? it's hilarious and horribly uncomfortable at the same time because of all the lies he makes up. at one point he tries to change the subject by saying "condoms! who needs them? let the free seed of love gush forth!"
as if catholics sit around chatting about condoms all day. anyway, check it out even if you're not catholic. very funny program(me). |

| My experience has been that if it's important to the school, they'll ask BEFORE they hire. There's one school in my town that won't hire if you're not Catholic or if you're divorced. It's an Opus Dei school. |

It was a tomato threat! Be afraid, be very afraid. We take those seriously in Sinaloa, where the capital city of Culiacan seems to cherish the tomato as a symbol and we all have to sport a large tomato on our license plates. Oh, and the baseball team is known as the "Tomateros". They kick serious butt. Don't underestimate the tomato in Mexico. |

| That reminds me of the song, "The Eggplant that Ate Chicago" by the same guy who brought us "Spirit in the Sky"! |

Which school, is this?
As far as I know, the only Opus Dei run school in this city is the one I'm referring to. In that case, you must have have interviewed with Peter...an atheist, and I sincerely doubt you talked religion with him. I've been party to three interviews and none involved either a shrink or a priest. The guy talks numbers and quarts... I was interviewed myself by a non-Opus Dei Catholic group for a teaching job in 2003 and when religion came up, I told them I was a 'lapsed Catholic' (atheist in other words). Job was mine anyway until I turned it down and recommended a Baptist, who got the job.
Unless...there's another Opus Dei school here? If so, I'd be interested in knowing who they are... |
Sorry, I got a little mixed up. The school I interviewed at was run by the Legionaires of Christ, also a very strict and conservative order of the Catholic Church. |

| Cumbres in Merida is a Catholic prepa and I understand they take exception to non.Catholics, or so says my Mexican friend Aldo who worked there for a year. He finally revealed to them that he, albeit Catholic by birth, was an atheist, and continued on with strong criticicism of one of its founders, who was recalled to the Vatican for sexual improprieties. Aldo was canned at the end of the year. |
