Does anyone know where the best ESL market is in Canada.
I'm in Korea and I'll be finished in a year....I'd like to get jumpstarted in the right Canadian city.
Is there an ESL market in Alberta?
Thanx guys.. |

Can you define what you mean by "best"? Do you mean:
- the city with the greatest number of ESL students and schools?
- the city with the most ESL teaching positions?
- the city with the best chance of securing year-long, full-time employment?
- the city with the best ratio of available jobs to prospective teachers?
- the city with the highest wage?
- the city with the best wage when compared to the cost of living? |

Yes, there's a market in Alberta (or in Calgary, anyway). But unless you have the quals and experience (and connections) to land a uni or college position, the private language schools and chains don't pay a wage that works well with housing costs - which have skyrocketed over the past 3 years or so.
I haven't personally checked the wages at private lang. schools in the past few years, being employed outside Canada, but I think they are around 25 CAD hourly. Housing costs makes it less than a livable wage, I think. |
