I have found that tongue twisters are widely popular with my students. Whenever I broach the subject, my students insist on having me try out their own.

To that end I have decided to come up with some new ones in English other than what the woodchucks, peter, and the shellseller have done.

The usually whining wino wined and dined without whining about no wine.

Let that be a challenge to those out there. I am sure you can come up with many much better.

I've tried to work with much shorter tongue-twisters that work minimal pairs for Spanish speakers. Long and short vowel i, v/b, s/z, for example. I've never seen much value in highly mechanical tongue twisters, preferring to work on more everyday items.

Google it and you can find English tongue twisters for every letter.

For learners I love simple ones.

Red letter, yellow letter.
Say that over and over and over fast--particularly with the north american "flap t"


Another great one is

Leather lizards.

Two extremely difficult ones:

Are you copper-bottoming 'em, my man?
No, I'm aluminiuming 'em, Mum! (Better with BrE pronounciation of "al-u-min-i-um-ing)
