Hi Forum ,
What is the actual work Visa regulation for Indonesia ? Do you really need a sponsorship letter from your home land or some organisation that indicate as quarantee/ guarantor ? Can't the school provide this ?

| The answer to that jondeg is no...they are always crying out for teachers here and only a tefl certificate or bachelors is needed. |

Magpie, I am yet to meet anyone who has got a work permit with a degree or tefl - try rocking up to Manpower with that in your hand and see how you go.
I think the OP was asking about work permits not qualifications. Yes you do need sponsorship from an organization or company in Indonesia. Your school will organize this for you (usually takes a couple of months) and then you will have to stop in at an Indonesian embassy in Malaysia or Singapore before you arrive in Indonesia, to get your work Visa. After you arrive you then have to register at an immigration office and get your temporary residency permit.
It is a long, shitty process, so it is no wonder some schools flout the laws and bring people in on tourist visas or sos/buds. Schools who go through this process also have to pay a tax to the govt, $100 USD a month, for every foreigner they have working for them. Thus, they are unlikely to do this unless they are seriously interested in you working for them.
Do not work on a tourist visa - I have done it and all you need to do is make one enemy who has the guts to dob you into immigration and your done for. Those who tell you it is ok are just lucky they have never been caught. I have seen people go through deportation and it isn't a fun experience. |

Thx for the advice.
I read thru the visa and work permit regulation forms that the school sent to my husband. They mention that the school need to have a "sponsor repatriation letter ". Each teacher must have a letter of repatriation signed by a sending organization or by a friend or family member. And its says legally teacher must have a "guarantee " from someone in their home country, t4 the school can not provide this letter for the work permit ??? |
